In many jurisdictions, artificial intelligence (AI) is starting to become embedded in workflows and processes.
General counsel (GCs) highlight the benefits of using AI tools to drive efficiencies and automate lower-value tasks. This frees up their time to handle more complex matters – ones that AI tools can’t assist with, yet.
However, the technology also brings its challenges. Getting a handle on the use of AI, and using the right tools, was something raised by numerous GCs. The general sentiment here is that they “don’t want to use a platform that hasn’t been vetted.”
Many GCs are leaning on their external counsel to help evaluate AI tools and provide training on them. There is some evidence of concern about the loss of the “human touch”, and a sense of resistance to digital transformation happening too quickly. A cautious approach is certainly the watchword for many.
