Diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are about levelling the playing field so that talented lawyers who want to progress within a firm can do so. A big part of it is about promoting lawyers according to results and talent, but it’s also about visibility.
When it comes to choosing a law firm to partner with, while companies might not demand a particular number when it comes to diversity, they may be keen to hear about what initiatives the firm is engaging in to promote inclusion.
Highlighting this, Macarena Vargas Losada, Legal Vice-President at Codelco, says that such efforts indicate that a firm shares the values of her own team and company, as well as behaving consistently with a statement of values.
